Sweatshirt fabric stretches, so good stabilization matters. The goal is to support the stitches without making the finished garment stiff or uncomfortable.
Use cut-away for lasting support
A medium-weight cut-away stabilizer is a reliable starting point for dense character designs on sweatshirts. Hoop it securely with the garment, keeping the fabric smooth but not stretched. Check the embroidery hoop size guide before loading the design so it stays within your machine’s usable stitching area.
Add topping when the surface is fluffy
If the sweatshirt has fleece, nap or a textured surface, place water-soluble topping over the design area. It keeps small details from sinking into the fabric.
Test before the final garment
